Better Communication for Better Health: A Conversation with Dr. John Paul Lederach
“Don't ask people to trust you. Ask people to help you increase trustworthiness.”

Across the United States, polarization is at an all-time high. As public health communicators, our role is to build relationships with our communities so they can trust our guidance when it matters most. When evidence alone is no longer enough, navigating community divides and facilitating meaningful, compassionate conversations among people with different lived experiences is critical to our success.

In this 45-minute conversation, Dr. John Paul Lederach, Professor Emeritus of International Peacebuilding at the Kroc Institute of International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, joined PHCC Director, Amanda Kwong, to discuss how to apply the principles of peacebuilding to public health communications.

Dr. Lederach’s guidance is informed by his decades of experience working in conflict transformation with communities impacted by sustained violence across Latin America, Africa, and Southeast and Central Asia.
